Now that you know how to use proper fretting hand technique, it’s time to learn more ways to play fast and clean on guitar.

You can’t consistently play with great speed and accuracy if you haven’t developed perfect synchronization between both hands. You begin playing guitar fast in an effortless manner once you achieve excellent two-hand sync.

Learn how to improve your two-hand synchronization using these tips:

1. Fix Flying Fingers

Having flailing fingers when you play guitar makes it very hard to play with the efficient movement needed to keep both hands in sync.

2. Track Your Progress

Choose a specific practice item and find a metronome tempo where you can play it with both hands in perfect sync (the tempo will be lower than your maximum playing speed). Track this over time to improve your ability to identify mistakes that hold back your overall progress.

Doing this gives you a clearer path for what you must do to get better results. Getting better results makes guitar practice more fun and motivates you to achieve your musical goals faster.

3. Use A Heavier Pick

Thin guitar picks bend every time you pick a note. This creates a tiny delay before it returns to position for you to play the next note. This delay messes up the synchronization between your picking and fretting hands and makes it very hard to play accurately at fast speeds.

Using a stiff pick keeps your hands in tight sync because it doesn’t need to reset after each note. Additionally, a thicker pick gives you louder volume with less picking force. This helps you articulate notes more clearly.

4. Invest Time Into Practicing Guitar Unplugged

A lot of guitarists overlook huge mistakes they make in their guitar playing because they exclusively play through distortion settings on their amplifier.

Playing guitar without your amp prevents you from covering up mistakes with distortion and forces you to keep your hands in perfect sync to play accurately. This helps you develop your picking articulation and makes playing with distortion even easier.

Now that you know how to fix your fretting hand guitar technique problems to play fast and clean, the next step is to master all the other elements that go into playing guitar fast. Learn how in my free eGuide about how to double your guitar speed in no time.
